What happened with Israel?
Why should you care about this?
[Romans 9:6 ESV] But it is not as though the word of God has failed…
GOD’S WORD DID NOT FAIL!
[Romans 9:6 ESV] … not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel…
[Romans 11:5 ESV] So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
[Romans 11:26 ESV] … all Israel will be saved…
Vss. 25-27: Mystery
[Romans 11:25-27 ESV] 25 Lest you be wise in your own sight,
I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers:
a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved,
as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; 27 “and this will be my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”
What is a mystery according to the Bible?
[Acts 13:46 ESV] And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you (Jews). Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.
[Romans 11:7 ESV] … Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,
Will every ethnic Jew who ever lived be saved?
[Romans 9:8 ESV] This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.
Or will ethnic Jews will be saved another way, outside of looking to Jesus alone for salvation?
[John 14:6 ESV] Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
[Romans 11:26-27 ESV] 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved,
as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; 27 “and this will be my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”
[1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 ESV] 9 … and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
[Zechariah 12:10 ESV] “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.
[Zechariah 13:1 ESV] “On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.
What does all Israel mean?
[Romans 11:25 ESV] Lest you be wise in your own sight…
[Romans 12:16 ESV] … Never be wise in your own sight.
Live in awe of your wondrous God.
Vss. 28-32: Mercy
[Romans 11:28-32 ESV] 28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. 32 For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.
A divine quality by which God faithfully keeps his promises and maintains his covenant relationship with his chosen people despite their unworthiness and unfaithfulness. —Elwell, W. A., & Comfort, P. W. (2001). In Tyndale Bible dictionary (p. 882). Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers.

[Romans 3:19-20 ESV] 19 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
[Galatians 3:22 ESV] But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
[Romans 5:12 ESV] … death spread to all men because all sinned–
