June 13, 2021
Proverbs 24:3-4 - By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; 4 through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
* Covenant vs. Consumer RELATIONSHIP
Genesis 2:24 - Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. KJV
Cleave: Means to be glued to someone through a covenant, a binding promise or an oath.
• A COVENANT relationship is a relationship that is based on a promise.
• A CONSUMER relationship is relationship that is based on what is good for me and my needs being met.
Ephesians 5:22 - Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
1. Jesus had a lot to say about the subject of LOVE.
Mark 12:30-31 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
2. Ephesians 5:22 is important because it’s an application given to women of a mandate given to all of us. Paul is drawing from the teachings of Jesus and applying them to family. This is actually an overarching principle to which we are all accountable, and this is just one single application.
Ephesians 5:21 - Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
3. Paul would say that in a marriage there is MUTUAL submission and that is God’s covenant standard.
Ephesians 5:22, 25, 6:1 - Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord… 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her…6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Ephesians 5:21 - Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
4. Here’s the question I should ASK: What can I do to help?
5. What stops us from asking that question? FEAR of my needs not being met.
Ephesians 5:21 - Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
• The key to a great marriage is MUTUAL submission.
Romans 5:6-8 - For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. NASU
Proverbs 24:3-4 - By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; 4 through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
Practical steps:
1. Ask for forgiveness if you have been committed to a consumer relationship.
2. Commit to a covenant relationship.
3. Commit your marriage to Jesus.
