Part 6 - For the Profit of All

  • “Pentecostal” is a term that means a Spirit-filled, because the early church was with the Spirit on the day of the Jewish Feast of Pentecost.

Acts 2:1 - When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 2:4 - And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:17 - And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh.
Acts 2:39 - This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”
John 14:26 -But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
John 16:13 - However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.

  • In Luke 4:18 Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord is upon , and in Acts 1:8, He said the Holy Spirit will come upon .
  • The church is rediscovering that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a promise and a gift for believer.

Yet the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each, for the profit of

    . —1 Corinthians 12:7
Each believer is given continuous revelation by the Holy Spirit to not just himself but all. —1 Corinthians 12:7 (TPT)
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common . —1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)
Each person is given something to do that who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. —1 Cor 12:7 (The Message)

4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the
interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. —1 Corinthians 12:4-11

1) “To each one” means that believer gets to participate in the gifts.

  • Christianity is a life infused with the Spirit of the living God.
  • Jesus said “do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” and “the kingdom of God is within you”. (Luke 12:32, 17:21)

I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be my people. —2 Cor 6:16b

  • Because the Holy Spirit is in us, we must learn to the supernatural.

2) “For the profit of all” means that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the of the whole community.

  • Benefit is also translated: , for your good, expedient.
  • One of the best ways to begin participate in the gifts of the Spirit is to ask God to give you His for others.

3) The Holy Spirit distributes the gifts as He wills, but we are active .

- Flowing in these gifts are a act with God.

a) The gifts of the Spirit involve a measure of

; stepping out over the line of what might be comfortable.

And these signs will

those who believe. —Mark 16:17

- You can take that step of faith and risk and still be “normal”. It’s all about being .

b) There’s a

curve with the gifts, and the church is a training center.

Where no oxen are, the stall is clean: but much

is by the strength of an ox. —Proverbs 14:4

c) We are

by the word, and the word gives us guidelines.

And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. —Matthew 14:14

  • When I’m by love, what God wants to do becomes bigger than my fear of failing or making a mistake when I step out.

d) We don’t get our primary

from the gifts; our identity is in Christ as daughters and sons.
