Message Notes:

Legacy is anything tangible or intangible that someone hands down or is known by that outlives them even after they are gone.

Family Legacy (The intangible values you pass on to your family)

Spiritual Legacy (The intangible service you pass on to God’s Kingdom)

Financial Legacy (The tangible things you pass on to everyone who comes after you)

MAIN IDEA:

The foundation to a good spiritual legacy is realizing it is not about us.

It’s about doing well with the people around us and the resources God has given us.

John 12:23
23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (IE. Leaves a spiritual legacy) 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. 27 “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!”

1. Don’t live life with a comfort mindset … live with a kingdom mindset.

John 12:24-25a
24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed…25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it…

Matthew 16:24-26
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? ESV

2. You will never feel ready … Start from where you are and use what you got.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10
7 So to keep me from becoming conceited…a thorn was given me in the flesh… 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. ESV

3. Live as a conduit … Let things flow through you.

If we are going to leave a good spiritual legacy to others … we have to commit to this conduit mindset.

MAIN IDEA:

The foundation to a good spiritual legacy is realizing it is not about us.

It’s about doing well with the people around us and the resources God has given us.

Matthew 28:19-20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations (ie. Reproduce in others what I have shown you), baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ESV

1. Don’t live life for comfort … live it for the kingdom.
2. You will never feel ready … Start from where you are and use what you got.
3. Live as a conduit … Let things flow through you.

CLOSING THOUGHT:

The impact of leaving a spiritual legacy will be seen in its fullest when we get to heaven.

There will be people there because of your faithfulness here.
