It’s Messy
Grace Is Messy

There is a gift that Jesus extends to every one of us. A gift that is often misunderstood and undeserved and yet when embraced, changes lives forever. That gift is grace, and it is messy.

1. Grace looks past the

_, past the , and sees the heart.

John 8:10b-11 “…’Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?’ 11 ‘No, Lord,’ she said. And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I. Go and sin no more.’” (NLT = New Living Translation)

Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NLT)

• The grace we have

_ should be the same grace we _.

2. Grace doesn’t always

John 4:9-10 9 “The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, ‘You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?’

10 Jesus replied, ‘If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.’” (NLT)

3. Grace is

_

Ephesians 2:8-9 8“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” (NLT)

4. Grace

_ the stories of our lives

1 Corinthians 15:10 “But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me-and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.” (NLT)

• If we want to

others to God, we must love others God.

5. We are all

of grace

2 Corinthians 5:20 20 “So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’”

This week I will show grace to

Discussion Questions:

  1. What has you experience with grace been like? Was it hard to receive? How did it change your life?

  2. Read the story of Jesus’ encounter with the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11). What does this tell you about Him and how He sees us?

  3. Read John 4:28-30. We see the response of the woman at the well when she encountered the grace of Jesus. Have you responded the same way? Who are you talking to about the grace you have experienced?

  4. Who are you going to show grace to this week?

  5. Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the grace He has extended to you, and then ask Him to lead you to someone that needs to experience that same grace.
