TEACHING NOTES

Micro-Cravings for Fame:
• Over commitment
• Doing or saying something just so someone will like you
• Doing something just to get credit and recognition
• Overly sensitive to criticism or perceived rejection

It’s very difficult to be focused on others when you are trying to get others to focus on you.

The pursuit of fame draws our hearts away from God, away from others and their trajectory moves towards self.

It all comes down to MOTIVE:
1. Who are you representing?
2. Whose approval matters most?

We are Christ’s Ambassadors. An ambassador is the highest-ranking diplomat sent from one nation to another nation to represent the home territory.

We are not called to be famous. For our own sake and recognition…We are called to be faithful.

less of me…MORE OF Him.

TALK IT OVER

INTRODUCTION
All of us are constantly chasing something. Whether we are in the precarious pursuit of perfectionism, chasing money and possessions, micro-cravings for fame, the approval of other people, or a life of comfort, we all are chasing a carrot. Maybe it is time we stop chasing things out of our reach and settle into what God has for each of us.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Have you ever been starstruck by someone famous?
2. What are some of the pros and cons that come with fame?
3. Have you ever pursued fame in the past, even in small ways? How did you pursue it?
4. How does pursuing fame move us away from God and others?
5. Read Psalm 115:1. Are there any areas of your life where you’re tempted to pursue fame instead of being faithful?
6. How can you resist cravings for fame?
7. What are some ways you can elevate God and others this week, rather than yourself?

MOVING FORWARD
Think of a way to transform your thinking and allow more of Jesus in your everyday and less of your own desires.

CHANGING YOUR MIND

As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else. —1 Thessalonians 2:6 (NLT)
