Luke 18:15-17
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Read Luke 18:15-17
- Why do you think people were hoping for in bringing their babies to Jesus? What do you think they wanted to happen?
- The word translated “babies” in verse 15 is a word that specifically describes newborns and infants. The word translated “children” in verse 16 is more general and applies to children of many different ages. Does this have any impact on the way you understand and interpret this event in Jesus’ ministry?
- Why do you think the disciples were rebuking the people for bringing their babies to Jesus?
- What do you think Jesus means when he says the kingdom of God belongs to ‘such as these?’
- What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God like a little child? Does this come naturally for you? Or is it a struggle?
