{MAKE} DISCIPLES a return to discipleship (part 2)
MATTHEW 28 (NLT)
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
MATTHEW 22 (NIV)
35 An expert in the law tested (Jesus) with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
JOHN 13 (NIV)
(Jesus said,) “34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
The LOVE COMMANDS of Jesus
- love God & love your neighbor
- love each other - as I have loved you
Jesus made following him an expression and action — not an adherence to beliefs
LOVE CHALLENGES
- Love “As I have loved you”
- Pray for those who persecute you
- Lay down your life for your friends
- Lend without expecting to get anything back
MATTHEW 5 (NIV)
(Jesus said,) 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, … 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?”
JOHN 15 (NIV)
(Jesus said,) “12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
LUKE 6 (NIV)
(Jesus said,) 35 “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High … “
