Jamie began his sermon by stating the ability to communicate clearly is vital for leadership. It takes more than being a good speaker to be a good leader. A leader must clearly communicate ideas and vision. Do you have a leader in your life who communicates clearly, effectively? Why or why not? What distinctions do you see between one who is communicating effectively or not? Does a clear communicator make a difference? Explain.
Many times, throughout the Bible we see how Jesus was a perfect communicator. He picked the right setting, He understood people’s needs, He challenged listeners to improve. Jamie said, “A great speaker is somebody who doesn’t just talk about it but practices it.” This can be hard. How many times do you tell your kids not to do something, but then you go and do the complete opposite? How many times do you actually “practice what you preach?” Discuss.
Read Luke 6:20 - 37. Go back and reread some verses that stood out to you. In what ways can we be like God, full of mercy, generosity and love? Why does this matter in the Christian life? Discuss.
Look at Luke 6:21 again. That’s the Golden Rule, right? But as Jamie said, we love it when it’s applied to us but it’s a different story when we have to apply it to people who might oppose us. Name a time when you asked God for forgiveness, but then struggled to forgive someone when they wronged you. Explain how it made you feel.
Read Luke 6:46-49. How many times do we tell ourselves, “Jesus is in charge” but then live a life contrary to His commands? Jamie said it’s as foolish as going to the doctor and ignoring the doctor’s orders. If we can’t follow Jesus commands, why do we keep calling to Him, “Lord, Lord!”? If what He says is ETERNALLY important, and what He did for us is even more important, shouldn’t we hear and implement His warnings? Teachings? Don’t we want eternal life and peace?
What areas in your life are a struggle? How can you better love God and love people, even when it is hard for you? Discuss.
Jamie closed his sermon like this: “I want you to leave here, not just saying, “Jesus was a perfect communicator.” I want you to leave here today saying, “Jesus is a perfect Savior.” The whole point is Jesus loves YOU, He died for YOU. He went to the cross for YOU. He wants to save YOU. Don’t stubbornly resist Him! If you humbly surrender, He will give you eternal life and peace. Read John 3:16 & Philippians 4:6-7. Close by praying, fully surrendering everything to Jesus, so you may experience God’s peace. Ask God to help you better communicate and truly show and share His love each and every day.
