John 15:1-17
June 30-July 2, 2023
This weekend, we celebrate our independence as a nation. We live in a nation with many freedoms and blessings. As a result, many learn to live their lives in a way where they begin to believe that they don’t need help from anyone- including God. But this is not what God intends. In our passage this morning, we learn that there is a better way than living life on our own.

Discussion Questions
Share with the group about times in your life when you have struggled with trying to live life on your own without the help of God or others. Was there a reason that you made this decision? What were the results? Next, share about how learning to depend on God or others has benefited you in your life.
John 15:2 Jesus says that every branch that bears fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. What does it mean to bear fruit? Read: Matthew 7:15-20, Galatians 5:22-25. How could pruning make us more fruitful?
John 15:5 Jesus repeats himself saying “I am the vine; you are the branches.” The repetition gives emphasis that a living union with Christ is necessary. Who are some biblical examples of people who lived a life dependent on God? Who are some examples of people who did not live dependent on God?
What are some ways that you, or your group, could take action and bear fruit? Think of ways that you, or your group, could bring the hope of Jesus Christ to a person or group who needs to see the love of Jesus in action?
