DQ: A Tale of Three Kingdoms - Pt. 11
October 23, 2022
Part of Sermon Discussion

INTRODUCE: The widow borrowed many jars from many neighbors. What have you most often borrowed from your neighbors?

READ: 2 Kings 4:1-7, 32-35, 42-44, 13:20-21

PRAYER: Begin the time by praying together

DISCUSS

  1. Elisha did several “Jesus-like things.” What “Jesus-like things” have you witnessed being done around you? What was done in the wake of those “Jesus-like things” that pointed you to heaven?
  2. What kind of “Jesus-like” things do you think God desires you to do in the days ahead?
  3. What do you think God was showing His people through the use of miracles that were in the referenced scriptures?
  4. Read Luke 24:44 and John 5:39. Other than the examples given in the sermon about the Christocentric nature of the Old Testament (the ways in which it is about Christ), site other places in which Christ is shadowed or echoed in the Old Testament.
  5. Rich Mullins felt called to work with Native Americans to point to Jesus and lived his life doing that. Where do you believe God has called you to be “an arrow pointing to heaven?” What causes you to believe that?
  6. What do you think is the most important thing we have at our fingertips that helps us point others to the true King? What things in your life can point others in a different direction instead?
  7. What do you think it looks like to successfully balance being politically aware while putting our trust in Christ, the true king?

PRAY
Thank you, my Father, for being sovereign over all things. Please help me to recognize ways in which I am putting my hope in people in governmental positions rather than in You. I want to point those around me to look upward to You. I’m asking that You show me how I can do that more effectively. Amen.
