3 Kinds of Suffering that a Christian will Endure:

1. Suffering because of the name of Jesus.

2. Suffering because God is refining you.

6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. —Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

3. Suffering because of the sin in your life.

14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. —1 Peter 4:14 (ESV)

15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. —1 Peter 4:15 (ESV)

11 aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, 12 so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one. —1 Thessalonians 4:11–12 (ESV)

11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. —2 Thessalonians 3:11–12 (ESV)

17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” 19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. —1 Peter 4:17–19 (ESV)

32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world. —1 Corinthians 11:32 (ESV)

7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. —Hebrews 12:7–8 (ESV)

9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. —Hebrews 12:9-10 (ESV)

BIG IDEA: When suffering comes, rejoice, because God is in it.

19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. —1 Peter 4:19 (ESV)
