As we live by the Spirit, we must also die to self.

Galatians 5:25

The Spirit quickens (makes alive) dead hearts—we were once dead but now are alive by the Spirit’s supernatural work.

We can’t stay on autopilot, we must stay in step with the Spirit by walking where He leads.

Four ways Paul exhorts us to stay in step with the Spirit.

Galatians 5:26

Pride is a destructive force and must be recognized and resisted.

Pride irratates and aggravates others. Pride looks on others with envy.

Community is a remidy for pride.

Galatians 6:1

Pride exalts self as an individual but community provides correction.
What Paul means by someone “caught in sin” is someone caught off guard or surprised by sin.

Correcting with a gentle spirit is a product of the fruit of the Spirit.

We must guard ourselves as we correct someone else, lest we fall into their sin or fall into our pride.

Galatians 6:2

Pride pretends to possess strenght. Community is strength.

The burden described here is something that is too heavy for one person to carry.

Love is the fulfillment of the law (Galatians 5:13–15; John 13:35).

Galatians 6:3

Pride paints a picture of self better than what we really are.

Galatians 6:4–5

Pride robs God of His glory.

Examination is more than instrospection.
When we examine our actions, we should find that they are the product of the Spirit’s work in our lives, resulting in God’s glory. Our boast is in Him not ourselves.

The burden described here is one that could be carried by a vessel or by one’s backpack.

The image is that on judgment day, every person, individually, will stand before the Lord to be held accountable for his/her deeds.

1 Corinthians 3:13–15 talks of a future day when one’s works will be tested by fire.
