ICEBREAKER: What’s the best advice you’ve been given on how to deal with anger?


Read Matthew 5:21-26

How well do you understand your own anger at other people? When (under what circumstances) do you get angry? With whom? Are there any patterns in what makes you angry? What are they?


In what ways are murder and anger connected? What new standard of right and wrong is Jesus creating?


Verse 23 suggests that our relationships with other people matter to God. What does this tell us? How seriously do we take this? How does this – or will this – affect our relationships? Why?


In verse 25, Jesus tells us to “settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court”. What does this have to do with anger (verses 21-22) and reconciliation (verses 23-24)? What is He emphasizing? Why might Jesus use court language to communicate this?
