CORE 52 | Week 32 | The Incarnation
December 7, 2022
SESSION VIDEO | THE INCARNATION (Mark Moore)
KEY POINTS
- Incarnation means Jesus is God in human form. It also means that only those who know Jesus will truly know God.
- Nearness, love, and suffering are attributes of God seen best in the Incarnation.
- The incarnation of Jesus is not merely a theological truth but a practical *model* of successful relationships.
FOR REFLECTION
- How much of humanity did Jesus experience? What aspects stand out to you the most?
- Read Matthew 2:13-23. What is happening in this passage? Do people today face similar events? How does this make Jesus relatable?
- Can you share a time when you had to change the way you spoke or acted in order to communicate with a person, culture, or group of people so they could better understand? Think of children, mission trips, work culture, academics, generations - how do they relate to the incarnation?
- In the midst of our suffering, what difference does it make to know that Jesus suffered the same as we do? Is that something you think about when you suffer?
- Mark Moore described the incarnation in three terms: nearness, love, and suffering. What do each of these mean for our relationship with God and our relationship with people?
- What does this change about the way you will live?
ACTION STEP
Identify one specific person who you will intentionally practice one of the aspects of the incarnation toward: nearness, love, or suffering. Discuss with the group what that looks like practically.
