James 1:12, NLT
“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

Hebrews 12:1-3, NLT
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance
the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.

We must look at those who have gone before us.

God often shows us how to persevere through whatever we are going through by looking at the lives of those that have been there before.

We must look at ourselves.

A winning athlete does not choose between the good and the bad; they choose between the better and the best.

“Kill sin or it will be killing you.” - John Owen

We must look at Jesus.

To run the race that is prepared for perseverance, we fix our eyes on Jesus.

1 Peter 2:21, NLT
“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.”
