What makes False Teachers So Difficult & Dangerous?
1. They are
v. 10 - But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are
destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively
2. They claim to worship God but they
v. 11 – For they walked in the way of Cain; Genesis 4; 1 John 3:12; Hebrews 11:4
3. They claim to serve people but they are
v. 11 - …and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error
Numbers 22-25; Revelation 2:14
4. They claim to want what is best for God but they are
v. 11 - …and perished in Korah’s rebellion’ Numbers 16
5. They claim to be devoted to God but they are
v. 12-13 – These are hidden reefs, shepherds feeding themselves,
waterless clouds, fruitless trees, shameful, fleeting
6. They claim to be good people but they are really
v. 14–15 - It was also about these (false teachers) that Enoch, the seventh from Adam,
prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, to
execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness
that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that
ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
7. They claim to care about God’s Church but they are
v. 16 - These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires;
they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
v. 19 - It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit
