Sermon Summary
As believers it is a non-negotiable that we must hail Christ as our King. Doing so becomes easier when we recognize Him as our Lord who personifies certain undeniable divine attributes; acknowledge that His life and ministry are a fulfillment of Scripture; and, at all times, extend to Him all our honour and praise, which He fully deserves.
Verse of the Week
Mark 11: 9 – 10
9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!’”
Going Deeper
Review Mark 11: 1 – 11
1) Pastor explained in the sermon that the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is celebrated as Palm Sunday. It is also called Passion Sunday. With reference to Scripture, explain this difference in the way the day is identified by believers.
2) In the passage, Jesus is hailed as a King. Name three other ways He has been described during His ministry on earth. Support your choices using Scripture. In what way is each important on your Christian journey?
3) Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a donkey colt. What is the Biblical significance of this choice of transportation? How does it affect your understanding of the character of Jesus?
4) The triumphal entry was prophesied in Zechariah 9:9. With reference to Scripture, list three other Old Testament prophecies about Jesus which have already been fulfilled. How do these promises, which were made and kept, impact your faith in God?
5) The people expressed their praise for Jesus by spreading clothing and palms in His path, as well as by their shouts of ‘Hosanna’ and other blessings. List six other ways that you can glorify God. Support your responses with reference to Scripture.
Assess Your Life
1) How comfortable are you with openly praising God and letting everyone see that He is your King and Lord?
a) I have personal goals that I must attend to before I can even think about God.
b) It is hard for me because most of my friends think that God is no fun, if I am being honest.
c) I want to turn my life around, but I am not really sure what to do next.
d) I understand that if I deny God, He will also deny me one day, so I am gradually getting there.
e) I acknowledge that God has been good to me, I can do nothing without Him, and I want the world to know.
2) What is really holding you back from making God the number one priority in your life?
Application
1) What actions will you specifically take to adjust your attitude and make you more open to acknowledging Jesus as your King?
a)
b)
c)
