INTRODUCTION

Marriage Rocks! God created marriage, and His idea was for marriages to flourish and fill the earth for generations to come. Finding the right person and being the right person will lead to a strong foundation for a marriage relationship that is based on mutual love and respect.

“Marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.” —Hebrews 13:4

Every marriage struggles at some point. Your marriage can either be rocky, or it can be rock solid. A marriage is made up of a husband and wife with a unique blend of personalities, events, scars, circumstances, and dreams. All of these collide when a marriage takes place. Learning to work together for the glory of God is an essential part of the marriage relationship.

Memory Verse:

“Trust in the LORD forever, because in the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!” —Isaiah 26:4

This collection of talks will show you how to build your marriage and your other relationships on the Rock, Jesus Christ.

Today’s Takeaway: Every marriage needs Jesus!

MARRIAGE ROCKS WEEK 2: WHAT EVERY MARRIAGE NEEDS

I. GOD PROVIDES A OF LOVE (v 1)

The word “imitate” is the word from which we get the English word mime.

A. Through His

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.” —1 Chronicles 16:34

“God is Love” —1 John 4:8b

“This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends.” —John 15:12-13

Agape love is giving others what they

most when they it the least!

B. Through His

“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” —Matthew 5:48

The devil likes to step into your relationship and whisper doubts and lies.

He starts with one at a time.

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.” —John 8:44

ROCK SOLID THOUGHT: Your marriage is never godlier than when you love like Jesus.

II. GOD PROVIDES A OF POWER (v 2)

A. A power to walk

(v 2a).

Hollywood’s Description for Relationships vs. God’s Prescription for Relationships
1. Hollywood says “

the right person” while God says “ the right person”
2. Hollywood says “ in Love” while God says “ in Love”
3. Hollywood says “Fix your hopes and dreams on this for your future fulfillment” while God says “Fix your hope on and seek to please Him through this relationship”
4. Hollywood says “If failure occurs, repeat steps 1-3” while God says “If failure occurs,
repeat steps 1-3”

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” —Ephesians 2:10

“So that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God;” —Colossians 1:10

B. A power to live

(v 2b)

“Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.” —James 1:2-4

“Anyone born of woman is short of days and full of trouble.” —Job 14:1

TROUBLE TRUTH

-Just got

of Trouble
-You’re Trouble now
-You’re going to be Trouble

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” —1 Corinthians 15:57

ROCK SOLID THOUGHT: Your marriage must face crisis with Christ.

III. GOD PROVIDES A SACRIFICE OF HOPE (v 2c)

A. Through the

“For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures.” —Romans 15:4

B. Through the

“For we eagerly await through the Spirit, by faith, the hope of righteousness.” —Galatians 5:5

C. Through the

“Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope:” —1 Timothy 1:1

Jesus Christ is the hope of the world and He is the Hope of your marriage. If you are dating and the other person does not believe then get out.

ROCK SOLID THOUGHT: Your marriage reflects service to Jesus and to one another.

CONCLUSION:

What needs to change in your current relationship or in your single life?

“Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.” —Philippians 2:4

NEXT WEEK WE WILL LOOK AT: Finding the love of your life with a spouse who loves the Lord.

DEEP DIVE QUESTIONS:

  1. John 8:44 talks about how Satan is the father of lies. What lies is Satan trying to use against you or in your marriage?

  2. Pastor Gary talked about how we are God’s poetry. Read Ephesians 2:10 and discuss how this verse impacts us as followers of Christ.

  3. Discuss the “Trouble Truth”. How does 1 Corinthians 15:57 give us hope?

  4. Reflect on the Rock Solid Thoughts this week and ask what needs to change in your relationships.
