We Bring Life: Core Values - Message Study Questions

Message Summary

Jesus Christ, God the Son, is the foundation of the Christian church. And Freshwater is
connected to the first church because it is Jesus’ Church. The church is an unstoppable force created by God for the glory of God to reveal the person and power of God. God chose the church as an instrument to make disciples and facilitate corporate worship among believers. When churches forget that their main purpose is to make disciples, they die. Freshwater’s vision is to bring life. Our mission is to make disciples, and our core values which reflect our priorities are to be real, relevant, relational, inspiring, and generous.

Freshwater encourages a culture of transparency and acceptance. The Bible is the most relevant book ever written. It speaks to every modern issue. Freshwater wants people to go deep in their understanding of scripture and wide in their reach and application of scripture. It’s not either or it’s both and. Freshwater believes that relationships are important to spiritual growth. Everyone needs someone to talk to. As a church, we want to inspire people by living out our faith. We want inspiring worship, messages, and kid’s ministry and student ministry.

Jesus personified generosity when He held nothing back. We, too, should be generous with our time, talents, and money. Giving when it hurts brings a certain joy, another component of the abundant life. Freshwater invites you to make these your
core-values as you live out your faith and make disciples.

  1. What do you prioritize in your life? What are some ways you can tell what you really
    prioritize (value)?

  2. What is the most significant way the Bible has altered your priorities?

Consider This

In Acts 2:42-47, they were praying together, worshipping together, sharing their
resources and God was adding to their numbers.

  1. What are some of the most common (significant) reasons why believers stray from
    these priorities?

    • What can you do to counter those influences?

  2. What prevents people from being real (transparent) about their struggles and needs?

    • How can you help change that value in your own life?

    • How can you encourage that value in others and at Freshwater?

  3. The Bible speaks to every modern issue. At Freshwater we accept the sinners (we are
all sinners) but resolutely defend the truth of God’s word and unapologetically
proclaim God’s word with its principles for modern living.

    • What principle from God’s word is most difficult for you to apply? Why?

    • What principles from God’s word are most difficult for our culture to accept?

  4. Practically, how do you love and accept sinners without accepting their sin? What are
some scenarios where this might play out? How can you find wisdom (James 1:5)?

  5. God is relational by nature, and created people in His image, so we, too, are relational
to the core. Why is isolation bad, and why does the abundant life include deep and
    trusted friendships?

    • Genesis 2:18

    • Proverbs 17:9, 27:17

    • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. What or who is the third strand?

    • Hebrews 10:24-25

  6. Inspiration means “God breathed.” In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, God breathes His words,
but the Holy Spirit moved in the person recording the message (Acts 1:16, 2 Peter
    1:21).

    • Read Acts 1:8, and 1 Peter 1:12. How does the Holy Spirit inspire you? And
      to what end?

    • Who else inspires you in your life's mission?

  7. What are some of the blessings of generosity according to Proverbs 11:25 and 1
    Timothy 6:17-19?

  8. What did Jesus say about giving and worrying about stuff in Matthew 6:2-4, 25-34?

Moving Forward – Application

If being a disciple and making disciples is your priority, how can you reinforce values
that will help you to do that this week?

  1. What safe and trusted person could you be more transparent with this week? Who can
you forgive their sins and pray for?

  2. God’s word is relevant. How can you find a way to apply it to your life and problems
    today?

  3. “Care about the things the people you care about, care about.” Vanessa Van Edwards.
Relationships take time and effort. What relationships could you work on this week?

  4. How can you find inspiration this week?

  5. To whom, and what can you give of your time, talent, or financial resources this week
    without expecting something in return?
