COMPELLED TO IMPACT: What To Do When God Gets Your Attention

Focal verse for the year:

And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit, not knowing what I will encounter there…
But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace. —Acts 20:22, 24

IHave I prayed today?*
Because my best conversations are with God.

The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God. —2 Chronicles 5:13-14 NIV

“If your people…turn back and acknowledge your name and pray to you here in this Temple…” —2 Chronicles 6:24 NLT

“O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to all the prayers made to you in this place.” —2 Chronicles 6:40 NLT

Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and ray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. —2 Chronicles 7:12-14 ESV

He is God of correction and blessing.

Because the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every one He receives as sons. —Hebrews 12:6

If you are not disciplined, and everyone undergoes discipline, then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. —Hebrews 12:8

Condemnation vs Correction

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. —Romans 8:1

Discipline vs Punishnment

He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, —Isaiah 53:5

4 Ways To Respond To God’s Discipline

Humility

…”God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” —James 4:6

Conversation

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. —Matthew 6:9-13 ESV

Insistence

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. —James 4:8

Repentance

… God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance —Romans 2:4

humble…pray…seek my face…turn…

I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
-2 Chronicles 7:12-14
