This last Sunday in our Trellis series, Mike talked about the importance of limiting productivity, and specifically, the Biblical concept of Sabbath rest.
From your own experience, what price do we pay (physically, relationally, spiritually, productively) when we consistently overwork and fail to properly rest and recharge?
Did the concept of Sabbath mean anything to you before Sunday’s message? Did you discover anything new about the Sabbath from Sunday’s message? [There is room for disagreement on this topic.]
Read aloud the main passage from Sunday, Matthew 11:28-12:8 and Mark 2:27. Drawing on Mike’s explanation of Sabbath origins, why did the religious leaders (specifically, the Pharisees) take the Sabbath so seriously? In contrast to the religious leaders, how did Jesus view the real purpose behind the Sabbath?
