Sent Ones: Program Notes
1) Three Instructions to the Sent Ones.
a) Instruction #1: What to pray. (Luke 10:1-3)
i) When the fields are ripe with a bumper crop, the time to harvest is now
or never.
ii) There is an urgency factor. Crops are only good for so long, then they
rot and fall off the vine.
iii) PRACTICAL APPLICATION: As a sent one, our first task is to pray
earnestly for more workers before hitting the fields.
iv) PRACTICAL APPLICATION: A pastor equips the church, but we all share
the Gospel.
v) PRACTICAL APPLICATION: We should have no fear of this world,
because the Good Shepherd is also Great. Praying reminds us of his
power.
b) Instruction #2: What to do. (Luke 10:4-16)
i) Trust God’s provision. Carry the message of Jesus and don’t be
burdened down with material things.
ii) Build strong relationships with the lost. Cultivate the soil!
iii) Meet people’s human needs as you discuss their spiritual need. “I can’t
hear you, I’m hungry!”
iv) PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Recognize that not everyone will welcome
the Gospel.
v) PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Remember that it is God’s job to judge the
lost, not ours.
c) Instruction #3: What to celebrate. (Luke 10:17-20)
i) We should not celebrate or boast about spiritual authority.
ii) We should instead celebrate the miracle of our salvation.
2) Conclusion: Are we willing to be sent ones? Are we ready to leave our comfort
zones and go man the rescue boats?
