Series: Thanks.Giving.
Title: Trust
Passage: 1 Kings 17
Speaker: Ross Frisbie (Senior Minister)
Use the following questions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.
Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose
- Do you trust your vehicle? Tell about the most and least trustworthy cars you’ve ever owned or experienced.
- Are you by nature a trusting person? How does it show in your relationship with others?
Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters
- How strong is your level of trust in God? In what situations are you more likely to trust God? When does your trust tend to waver?
- Read 1 Kings 17:1-4. Put yourself in Elijah’s sandals. Would you go live in a van down by the river and rely only from an Uber Eats staffed by birds? Why?
- When was the last time you took a major step of faith? Is God calling you to take a step of faith right now?
- Does God want you to avoid fear or overcome fear? What is the difference? How do you “fear not?”
- For the widow in 1 Kings 17:8ff, what was her biggest fear? After God provided, he confronted this fear again in 17:17-23. How could these incidents destroy trust? How could they grow trust? What causes the difference between trusting God more or less in situations like this? What does it teach you about your own trust in God?
- Are your prayers to God filled with trust or doubt? How might your level of trust in God impact the content of your prayers?
- How does trust provide a bridge between thanks and giving?
Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God
- Talk to God about your trust in Him. Pray for the courage to overcome fear and to rely more fully on Him.
