Life Group Questions – January 22nd & 23rd, 2022

This weekend Pastor Nathan preached on the relevance of the Bible and its ability to transcend time and culture.

Pastor Nathan Talked about the weakening perception and common misconceptions of the Bible.
What is the Bible to you? What is your honest perception of the Bible and the time you spend in it? How would you describe this book to someone who knows nothing about it?
How do you approach reading the Bible? Is it just a check mark on your to-do list? When you read your Bible, who do you make it about?

Pastor Nathan listed three reasons why the Bible is relevant to us, beginning with the fact that the Bible is personal.
Hebrews 4:12 says “For the Word of God is living and powerful” Is there a time where God’s word has spoken directly to your situation or the questions you were asking? If you remember, what did God tell you?
If we have questions, troubles, or even doubts, how can we seek answers to these Biblically? Do you tend to look for the Biblical answer first?

Pastor Nathan talked about how the Bible satisfies our needs.

Read Ecclesiastes 1:14, What is something you have sought after in this world that did not bring satisfaction as it promised? How can God and His Word satisfy in this area instead? How does God’s Word bring substance into the things He created?
Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17, What are some issues we face with society today that try to make the Bible seem irrelevant? What scriptures and truths about God can be used as a defense against these?

Pastor Nathan’s last point is that the Bible is relevant because it is all about Jesus from beginning to end.

Read Luke 24:25-27, Besides the messianic prophesies, where can we see Jesus in the Old Testament? Try to have everyone give at least one different example. Why is it so important that we see Jesus in the Old Testament?
When you read stories of greatness and heroism in the Bible (David and Goliath, Moses, Samson, etc.) do you tend to see yourself in those stories or do you see Jesus in them? If you read the Bible as Jesus’s story, and not your own, how might this change its narrative for you? In other words, do you ever read the Bible like it’s all about Jesus?

Pastor Nathan also mentioned how the Bible, unlike any other book, is living and every time you read even the same passage, God can have something new to say to you.

What is one passage that you have read more than once and have learned something new from each time? What lessons did you learn and why was each lesson important for the season you were in?
