Message Notes

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” —Psalms 127:3-5

“Don’t judge your parenting until your kids turn.” —Chip Judd

Every season of parenting presents its own set of challenges and opportunities

What changes in our parenting? Seasons

  • The Discipline years (0-5 years old)

3 Ds

  • Disobedience
  • Dishonesty
  • Disrespect

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” —2 Timothy 1:7

  • The Training years (5-12 years old)

  • The Coaching years (12-18 years old)

  • The Friendship years (18+ years old)

What stays in our parenting?

  • Your goals in parenting.

Here’s the target: relationship

“This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent—Jesus Christ.” —John 17:3

What we want our kids to know about God

  • God loves you unconditionally.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16

  • You can trust Him completely.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” —Proverbs 3:5-6

  • He will never leave you.

“For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’” —Hebrews 13:5

  • Everything you need is “In Christ.”

“For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” —Colossians 2:9-10

Help your kids to develop a firsthand faith

How Do We That?

  • Use their challenges to point them to Jesus.

  • Live your life as a fully devoted follower of Jesus.

Don’t let culture dictate your parenting

  • Draw some boundaries around your family.
  • Own your kids spiritual formation

Let prayer be the thread that runs through every season of your parenting
