Title: Making the Most of Life
Text: Acts 9:36-43
Date: May 21, 2023

Introduction: We only get one life, although we might wish for more than one. D.H. Lawrence said, “If only we could live two lives: the first in which to make one’s mistakes, and the second in which to profit by them.” However, life is not a dress rehearsal, or as someone else once put it: “Life is not a stress rehearsal!” One writer said: “Adult life is not a practice session. Practice time was while we were growing up toward adulthood. Practice time was when we were in school. We are now full participants in the game of life.”

The great challenge that lies before each of our graduates, as well as all of us, is how can we make the most of the rest of our lives? How can we flourish where we are and make a difference in the world with what God has given us? When we come to the end of life and stand before God, He is going to ask, “What did you do with the life I gave you?”

In our text today, there is a marvelous example of a woman named Dorcas, who made the most of the life God gave her. Although she never enjoyed fame or riches, she lived nobly and successfully and left a worthy example to emulate.
What can we learn from Dorcas’ example about making the most of life? Making the most of life requires that we:

I. Be Something (Acts 9:36a)

II. Do Something (Acts 9:36b)

III. Leave Something (Acts 9:39)
