1 John 2:15-17

1. The Lure of the World is Threefold:
a. It Promises
1 John 5:19, “We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one.”
James 4:4, “You adulterous people! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.”
Romans 13:14, “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.”
b. It
Matthew 6:22-23, ““The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light within you is darkness, how deep is that darkness!”
James 1:13-15, “They do everything to be seen by others: They enlarge their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love the place of honor at banquets, the front seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by people.”
c. It
John 12:42-43, “Nevertheless, many did believe in him even among the rulers, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, so that they would not be banned from the synagogue. For they loved human praise more than praise from God.”

2 Peter 3:7, “By the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.”
2 Peter 3:10-13, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed. Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness as you wait for the day of God and hasten its coming. Because of that day, the heavens will be dissolved with fire and the elements will melt with heat. But based on his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”
