SALT, LIGHT AND HURT
Matthew 5:11-16 | 12/05/2021

If you are at all living a consistent Christian life, then in the world you will be

, you will be , and you will be .

SALT
When we see decay, we know it can be

and healed, because transformed it in us.

LIGHT
LIGHT of the GOSPEL gives the promise of ultimate

in Christ, and the promise of complete and utter in Christ.

A “city on a hill” is

- Christ-centered.
(2 Timothy 3:12, John 16:33)

HURT

1. All who live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer

.

2. Some people who are not believers will really

you, and some people who are not believers will really be by your life, will be persuaded by your testimony.

3. People will treat you badly because of Jesus, since he has been

in the world and always has been.
(John 15:18-21)

4. When you experience difficulty because of Jesus, he tells us not to

about it, not to have - about it, and not to cry out that it’s unfair; it simply comes with the territory.

5. If you take a hit to your reputation, or experience opposition, and if you know what Jesus did for you, you can take that shame knowing that he took the ultimate

so you could have the ultimate .

PASSAGES

Matthew 5:11-16
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
