Unforced Rhythms of Grace
Week 8: Prayer

In this short prayer, Jesus teaches us not only how to pray but how to walk out this thing we call life.

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”
—Luke 11:1-13 (NKJV)

Doing Life Together at North Bay Community Church

Theme: Practicing Prayer

Reflect Together: What impacted you most from Sunday’s message?

Share Together: When and how have you seen prayer work recently in your life? If you can’t think of recent examples, what are you actively praying for?

Read Together: Luke 11:1-13

Discuss Together:

  • What does Jesus say about us? Who are we to him, and who are we because of him?

  • What could it look like for you in your everyday life to walk out the part of the prayer, “on Earth as it is in Heaven”?

  • How do we walk out true forgiveness like Jesus does?

  • The enemy would love to keep us focused on us. How do we die to the self, and how would that change every situation that we are in?

Pray Together: For this week’s small group, take time to practice prayer together. Jesus gives us the model prayer to pray that we call the Lord’s Prayer, and it’s made up of three parts: Upward, Inward, and Outward.

  Upward   Inward   Outward
“Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name”   “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done”   “Give us this day our daily bread”
Take time together in expressing prayer to declare who God is and thank Him for His goodness.   Repent and confess your dependence on earthly kingdoms. Ask Him to realign you with His purpose.   Pray for the needs of one another and for those who don’t know Jesus. Ask the Lord to help you forgive others.
