The purpose of River City Christian is to be a Mission Station: to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with every person everywhere and to grow and equip believers into fully devoted followers of Christ. This week, we’re starting a five-week series on the Essentials – the core values that equip us to carry out our mission.

  1. Read Hebrews 10:24-25. This week, we’ll begin by exploring the first essential: Worship. What is corporate worship? In what ways does a commitment to corporate worship contribute to the advancement of God’s Kingdom?

  2. Read Isaiah 6:1-8. Why do you think Isaiah begins the passage with, “In the year that King Uzziah died”? Why is this context significant for our own posture as we come before God in worship?

  3. What does it mean to “come as you are” in worship, and how can choosing to worship in the midst of pain, doubt, or struggle deepen our trust in God?

  4. Isaiah sees the Lord in His glory with the seraphim proclaiming His holiness. How should Isaiah’s vision of God’s greatness shift our perspective on who we are, what we face, and how we worship Him together as a body of believers?

  5. Why is it important for us to commit to worshiping together as a body? When was the last time you personally experienced a sense of awe or reverence in God’s presence? How did it impact you?

  6. Consider Isaiah’s reaction in verse 5. Why is conviction also an essential part of our worship experience? How does the image of the burning coal symbolize both conviction and grace and what does it teach us about God’s response to sincere confession during worship?

  7. How are genuine worship and service interconnected? How does Isaiah’s immediate willingness to serve demonstrate the relationship between true worship and action?

  8. What specific step is God asking you to take as you move beyond worship as an internal experience and engage in outward action to advance the Kingdom of God?
