John 21:25 (NLT)
Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.
The word transfigured is the Greek word metamorpho meaning to change into another form.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NLT)
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
Three reasons why the transfiguration of Jesus is a key moment for us this morning…
1.)
Luke 9:28-29 (NLT)
About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.
2.)
Luke 9:29-34 (NLT)
And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus. 31 They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem. 32 Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out,“Master, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials - one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 34 But even as he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them, and terror gripped them as the cloud covered them.
John 1:18 (NIV)
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
3.)
Luke 9:35-36 (NLT)
Then a voice from the cloud said,“This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.” When the voice finished, Jesus was there alone.
Matthew 17:8 (NLT)
And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.
2 Peter 1:19 (NLT)
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place - until the Day dawns, and Christ the Mourning Star shines in your hearts.
