Opening question:
Have you ever had an outdoor disaster like a bad camping experience or running out of supplies?
Passage:
1 John 3:1-10
Sermon Points:
-You are being led astray when your identity as a beloved child of God is in question.
-You are being led astray when your sin or patterns of sin are downplayed or overlooked.
-You are being led astray when Jesus’ victory over sin is in doubt.
Discussion Questions:
- What stuck out to you from the message or what questions did you have?
- Have you ever thought about how everything has potential to form us? Why do we feel like most things are neutral in our formation?
- Take an inventory of how you spend your time? Where are you spending most of your time and how does that affect how you are being formed?
- We often say Christianity is a relationship with God. One of those relationships is being God’s child. What are the implications and dynamics that arise out of that relationship?
- What happens when we let habitual sin go without repentance and getting accountability?
- Why do we think if we still struggle with sin God won’t love us? What does that teach us we think about God? What does the gospel actually teach?
- How can scripture be helpful in reminding us of our identity in Jesus?
