Our lives must be lived and look different from the culture

We must be extraordinary people. Hezekiah, as an example, was no average King or believer

  • Like Hezekiah, we become extraordinary by and God

He did what the Lord considered right, as his ancestor David had done. He got rid of the illegal places of worship, crushed the sacred stones, and cut down the poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah. He even crushed the bronze snake that Moses had made because up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. They called it Nehushtan. Hezekiah trusted the Lord God of Israel. No king among all the kings of Judah was like Hezekiah. —2 Kings 18:3-5 (GW)

  • As extraordinary believers we expect

About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.’” When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. Then this message came to Isaiah from the Lord: “Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. Yes, I will defend this city. —Isaiah 38:1-6 (NLT)

God gives extraordinary significance to prayer

    To God my prayer is

    – of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly

Three insights about God’s heart towards prayer

    1. Is
      • It’s the way God wants me to communicate.
      • Prayer is God’s idea not mine.
      • It is one of the ways He desires for me to connect with HIM.

God’s there, listening for all who pray, for all who pray and mean it. —Psalms 145:18 (MSG)

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. —2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (NLT)

I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart. —Jeremiah 29:11-13 (GNT)

    2. Is

It is how God gets me what HE wants me to receive.

We live in the bold confidence that God hears our voices when we ask for things that fit His plan. And if we have no doubt that He hears our voices, we can be assured that He moves in response to our call. —1 John 5:14-15 (VOICE)

    3. Is how , layered in sacrifice

    • I desire my prayer and time to be precious to God

God, come close. Come quickly! Open your ears—it’s my voice you’re hearing! Treat my prayer as sweet incense rising; my raised hands are my evening prayers. —Psalms 141:1-2 (MSG)

    • The prayers of the believer are treated special before God

As he did so, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each had a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. —Revelation 5:8 (GNT)
