Do people really suppress the truth? Do they really deserve the wrath of God?

God shows no partiality between the two types of sinners:
The

Sinner (Romans 1:26-31)
The Sinner (Romans 1:26-31)

“do you despise the riches of his kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?” —Romans 2:4

Everyone is in desperate need of the kindness of God—there is no partiality.

Next Week: Romans 3:1-20

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WARM UP QUESTION
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
1. Before reading… what was the audience that Paul was writing to? What would have been some of the tensions in this church?
2. Read Romans 1:26-2:29. How does Paul demonstrate that God shows no partiality?
3. Why does Paul specifically bring up homosexual practices in 1:26-27? Why do you think that many people find these verses to be troubling?
4. Who does Paul begin to address in 2:1? What is his message to this group?
5. Romans 2:13 says “the doers of the law will be justified”. Is Paul saying that we can earn our salvation through good works?
6. Summarize: what is Paul’s message to the shameless sinner? What is Paul’s message to the self-righteous sinner?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
7. As you look back at your life, do you identify more with the shameless sinner or the self-righteous sinner?
8. Which group do you think struggles most to accept the kindness of God (Romans 2:4)?

HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.
9. How can you remind yourself about the kindness of God this week?
