
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:38)
Sermon Title: A CRIMINAL, a Confession, and Christ!
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. (Luke 23:39)
Contempt: “railed on him. Mocked him”. Adding insult.
Confusion: “If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.”
I. His Conviction: But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? (Luke 23:40)
II. His Confession: “And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.” (Luke 23:41)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. ( 1 John 1:19)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).
III. His Cry: And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. (Luke 23:43)
“Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11)
If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
