Growing In Grace – God Did And God Will (2 Peter 3:1-7)
Theme For The Summer – Growing in
1Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. —2 Peter 3:1-4

Our understanding of God does not come from the world. It comes from
5For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. —2 Peter 3:5-6
6Then God said, “Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.” 7And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. 8God called the space “sky.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day. 9Then God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” And that is what happened. 10God called the dry ground “land” and the waters “seas.” And God saw that it was good. —Genesis 1:6-10
The first judgment was through water. The second judgment will be through fire.
7But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. —2 Peter 3:7
11And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. —Revelation 20:11-15
3 Truths From 2 Peter 3:1-7
God carries all
1The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad. 2Dark clouds surround him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3Fire spreads ahead of him and burns up all his foes. 4His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. 5The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. 6The heavens proclaim his righteousness; every nation sees his glory. 7Those who worship idols are disgraced— all who brag about their worthless gods— for every god must bow to him. 8Jerusalem has heard and rejoiced, and all the towns of Judah are glad because of your justice, O Lord! 9For you, O Lord, are supreme over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. —Psalm 97:1-9
Does the scoffer, when he mocks high heaven, thinks he insults God? He thinks so, but his insult dies long before it reaches halfway to the stars. —Charles Spurgeon
