Message Notes

We are meant to live for a purpose.

  • The religious leaders question His authority.

“And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, and they said to him, ‘By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?’” —Mark 11:27-28

“He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also rebuke those who contradict it.” —Titus 1:9

  • Jesus questions their authenticity.

“Jesus said to them, ‘I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.’” —Mark 11:29-30

“And they discussed it with one another, saying, ‘If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’’ But shall we say, ‘From man’?’—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.” —Mark 11:31-32

“So they answered Jesus, ‘We do not know.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.’” —Mark 11:33

Until we are willing to come to God in humility, we will not receive what we need from Heaven.

“You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” —James 4:2-3

  • Jesus reveals their future.

“And he began to speak to them in parables. ‘A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and leased it to tenants and went into another country.   When the season came, he sent a servant to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.’” —Mark 12:1-2

“And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Again, he sent to them another servant, and they struck him on the head and treated him shamefully. And he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed. —Mark 12:3-5

“He had still one other, a beloved son. Finally, he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’” —Mark 12:6

“But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ And they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.” —Mark 12:7-8

“The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” —Habakkuk 2:14

“But you are a chosen race (a Jewish concept), a royal priesthood (a Jewish assignment), a holy nation (a Jewish identity), a people for his own possession (a Jewish blessing), that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (a Jewish responsibility) Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” —1 Peter 2:9-10

  • We are chosen people who walk together with God.

  • We are chosen people who walk personally with God.
