Devotional for March 18-23, 2024
Message Recap:
This past Sunday, we reflected on a powerful thought: Jesus prays for you. Here are a few other inspiring thoughts to consider:
Jesus Prays for Us: We are reminded that, in our times of need and uncertainty, Jesus is actively praying for us. This truth provides comfort and strength beyond our own capabilities.
Joy and Protection Through Christ: The sermon highlighted the full measure of joy and protection available to us in Christ. It is not about the absence of trials but the presence of Jesus amidst them.
Unity and Sanctification: We are called to unity with Christ and fellow believers, mirroring the closeness of the Trinity. Sanctification is about living in truth, being sent into the world as Christ was, to share the Gospel.
As we reflect on these messages, be encouraged in the fact that Jesus is praying for you and the Holy Spirit is living inside of you.
Day 1: Jesus Prays for You - John 17:1-5
In the opening verses of John 17, we witness the intimate conversation between Jesus and His Father. As Jesus acknowledges His hour has come, He asks the Father to glorify Him so that He may glorify the Father, and in doing so, grant eternal life to all who believe. Eternal life is described as knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent. Reflect on what it means to truly know God and His Son.
How does this understanding shape your experience of eternal life right now?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you grow in your knowledge of Him and to experience the fullness of eternal life in your day-to-day journey.
Day 2: Jesus’ Prayer of Protection and Joy - John 17:6-13
Jesus’ prayer shifts to a focus on His disciples. He prays for their protection and for them to experience His joy completely. Consider your own need for protection and the deep joy that comes from Jesus.
How does it comfort you to know that Jesus has prayed for your protection and for you to have full joy, even before you were born?
Prayer Focus: Pray for the protection that Jesus has promised, and for His joy to be made complete in your life, regardless of your circumstances.
Day 3: The Power of Jesus’ Prayer - John 17:14-19
In these verses, Jesus prays for His disciples to be sanctified in the truth. Sanctification is a journey of becoming more like Christ through embracing God’s truth. Think about areas in your life where you may need to align more closely with God’s truth.
How can you allow the truth of God’s Word to sanctify and transform you today?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to sanctify you by His truth and to empower you to live out that truth in every aspect of your life.
Day 4: Jesus Prays for All Believers - John 17:20-26
Jesus extends His prayer to all believers, praying for unity among His followers just as He is united with the Father. Reflect on the unity Jesus desires for His church.
How can you contribute to fostering unity within the body of Christ?
Contemplate the love that the Father has for Jesus and how Jesus desires to share that love with us.
Prayer Focus: Seek God’s guidance on how to live in unity with other believers and pray for the ability to love as Jesus loves.
Day 5: Seeing Jesus’ Glory - John 17:24-26
In His final words of this prayer, Jesus expresses the desire for His followers to see His glory, a glory full of grace and truth. As we approach the celebration of Easter, ponder the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection and the glory that was revealed through His ultimate act of love.
How does the reality of Jesus’ glory inspire you to live differently?
Prayer Focus: Pray that you would have eyes to see the glory of Jesus in your life and that His glory would transform you more into His likeness.
