Week 10: Romans 14:1-12

March 10-16

Overview: Have you ever had someone in the Church come to you and challenge your beliefs in Jesus, sometimes even passing judgment upon you? In this week’s study, let’s look at some guidelines that Paul lays out for us to consider. We will examine scripture that helps us understand others’ beliefs in Jesus for the sake of unity. In his letter to the Romans, Paul says, “You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt?” Paul encourages us to look at ourselves and ask the question, “Why is there so much disunity in the body of believers?” As we reflect on scripture teaching us to be reconciled to God, let’s also consider how we can be reconciled to our brothers and sisters in Christ, creating a brotherhood of unity in Him.

Day 1: Romans 14:1-12

What do we learn about God?

What do we learn about people?

What is the key/main point?

Are there any truths/points regarding the gospel?

Optional Going Deeper: Choose a Bible study method/activity from the list below to deepen your knowledge/understanding of how God is speaking to you today.

Day 2: Romans 14:1-12

Note that not every text will have each of these. Please don’t force the text to make it fit. Simply look for what is there.

What sins are we called to avoid?

What commands/principles are we given to obey?

What promises can we claim?

What examples are there to follow?

Optional Going Deeper: Choose a Bible study method/activity from the list below to deepen your knowledge/understanding of how God is speaking to you today.

Day 3: Romans 14:1-12

As we grow in the knowledge of Scripture, we develop absolutes, convictions and preferences. How does this help or hinder with unity in the body of Christ?

When Scripture is not explicit on an issue, how should a person decide what is right or wrong?

How does the teaching in this passage influence your understanding of Christian liberty?

How can we get along with others and avoid being a stumbling block to others on the count of their beliefs?

Optional Going Deeper: Choose a Bible study method/activity from page 6 to deepen your knowledge/understanding of how God is speaking to you today.
