Serving or Being Served
2 Samuel 7:1-17

“Brothers, tell them not to serve God”
THE LORD, DAVID, AND A HOUSE
David wants to build a house for God
The Lord tells David (through Nathan), “I don’t need a house”
The Lord blesses David in many ways
“Your throne will be established forever”

DOES GOD KEEP HIS PROMISE TO DAVID?
Solomon and all the kings of Judah
Jesus, the ultimate Davidic King (Luke 1:32-33)

Lessons for us:
GOD DOES NOT NEED US
Even if everyone were to become an atheist, God would still be God (Acts 17:24-25)

If God doesn’t need us, why does He want us to serve Him?

WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR US IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR HIM
We need to gratefully receive the grace God gives

We should express gratitude to God through our worship

Think and talk about what the Lord has done, is doing, and will do for you
