Revelation 2:12-13
12“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:
These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.
Commendations
You’ve remained true even in the toughest of circumstances.
Caesar is Lord
Any throne that replaces Jesus as Lord is Satan’s throne.
Where does Satan have his throne?
Revelation 2:18-19
18“To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:
These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.
You’re faithful, loving, serving and doing more now than you ever did.
Correction
Revelation 2:14 …you have people who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and engaging in sexual immorality.
Revelation 2:20 …You tolerate that woman Jezebel… By her to engage in sexual immorality and eating food sacrificed to idols.
Jezebel
What you tolerate in your house will become normal in your kid’s house and then it shows up in God’s house.
Balak and Balaam
Numbers 25:1 The Israelite committed sexually immoral acts with Moabite women and participated in worship to false gods.
Among all the good things that Pergamum and Thyatira were doing, they allowed cultural comprise to lead them to violate God’s word.
Sexual immorality and food sacrificed to idols.
Acts 15:19-20
19“It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.
Repent
Pergamum was compromising and Thyatira was tolerating.
Where am I compromising God’s standard and what am I tolerating that is sin?
Revelation 2:16-17
16Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. 17Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
Revelation 2:26 To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations—
- Patience and promise.
Psalms 115:14-18
14May the LORD cause you to flourish,
both you and your children.
15May you be blessed by the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
16The highest heavens belong to the LORD,
but the earth he has given to mankind.
