Discussion Questions

Thank the Lord for your time together and ask his Spirit to illuminate his word to your minds and hearts so you can put it into practice. Take a minute or two to skim chapters 41-45 on your own. You’ll look at individual passages in the following questions.

  1. Read 41:14-16. Why is this evidence of Joseph’s God-centeredness? How can you point people’s attention to God in everyday life?

  2. God raises Joseph to power in Egypt (41:37-57). And he remains faithful to God through all his success. Why might it be easier to look to God in the depths of suffering, but forget him in the heights of success? How can you fight this temptation?

  3. Read Genesis 45:1-15. Joseph seeks reconciliation rather than revenge. Why can we say that forgiveness and reconciliation (where possible) is a mark of a living a God-centered life?

  4. Read Matthew 5:23-24. Why is reconciliation so important to Jesus?

  5. In Genesis 45:9-11 Joseph promises to provide for his entire family. He leverages his power and resources to be generous. How does this reflect the generosity of Jesus toward you? How do you think God is calling you to be generous with your time, talent, and treasure?

  6. Pray together that the Holy Spirit would help us live a God-centered lives so that others can see and experience his grace through us.
