Pastor Bryan Walmer
1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 CSB
We do not believe any man-made creed is inspired like the Scriptures.
The creeds have been used to correct error and shape God’s people.
Saying the creeds does not make you a Christian.
The Christian faith has been defined. 1 Corinthains 15:3-4
Very early on there were formulas developed that defined Christian belief. See Colossians 1:15-20 and Philippians 2:6-11
The word “faith” describes how we receive Jesus and the defined set of beliefs we hold.
Our faith is defined by the Scriptures and reflected in faithful summaries of what the Scriptures teach like the Apostles Creed.
Our defined faith keeps us from drifting into things that are not true.
The Christian faith is to be received. 1 Corinthians 15:1-2
The Christian faith is not taken, earned, or bought.
We must receive the Christian faith as it is.
Not all things are foundational.
It does not need to be redefined.
Christianity is like meatloaf.
