Conquer the World and Slay Dragons

Jesus. Conquering the World and Slaying Dragons
03.09.25

I love a good ending.

Who exactly is this dragon that is slain?

He has fallen because of his desire to take the place of God.
“How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world.
For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north.
I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’
Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths.” (Isaiah 14:12–15 NLT-SE)

He was in Eden, the garden of God.
“You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and exquisite in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God…

He was a guardian cherub/angel with direct access to God.
I ordained and anointed you as the mighty angelic guardian. You had access to the holy mountain of God and walked among the stones of fire.

He was blameless from the day he was created, until evil was found in him.
“You were blameless in all you did from the day you were created until the day evil was found in you…

He fell because of his pride.
Your heart was filled with pride because of all your beauty. Your wisdom was corrupted by your love of splendor. So I threw you to the ground and exposed you to the curious gaze of kings.” (Ezekiel 28:12–17 NLT-SE)

How does Jesus conquer the world and slay this dragon?

His Life.

“When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”

“Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”” (Luke 10:17–20 NLT-SE)

His Death.

“You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.” (Hebrews 12:24 NLT-SE)

His Resurrection.

“Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.” (Hebrews 2:14–15 NLT-SE)

Sending the Holy Spirit

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:4 ESV)

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,” (Ephesians 3:20 ESV)

And then the end will come.

“Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10 NLT-SE)

I love a good ending.
