Good News?
Week 3 - Good News For The Meek
March 17th, 2024
Pastor Ezequiel Gasca

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” —Matthew 5:4 (ESV)

  • What is Meekness?

  • Meek: Gentleness, humbleness, modesty and quietness

  • Being Meek is a Fight against works-based Entitlement

“Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips. —Job 2:9-10 (ESV)

  • What do you think you deserve?

  • The Christian walk is not striving to gain God’s favor

  • Being meek DOES NOT mean we cannot make requests

“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 18:3-4 (ESV)

  • His Protection, Our Inheritance

  • Challenge:
“Lord, where do I need to practice meekness to find your abundant peace?”

Notes:

Discussion Questions:

1 – What does it mean to be meek? How do we see this in both the lives of Jesus and Job in the Bible?

2 – How does the gospel of faith in Jesus challenge works-based entitlement?

3 – Do you believe you can work to gain God’s favor? Why or why not (challenge: find Bible verses to justify your response).

4 – Read Psalms 37 this week. What are some promises and protections God offers us when we meekly choose to trust and follow Him over ourselves or sinful nature?
