Series: Seeking God
Sermon Title: Part 3 - Why Pray if God is in Control?
Scripture: 2 Kings 20:1-7, Romans 11:33-35
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil
Questions:
How would you answer the question “Why should I pray if God is sovereign?
Read 2 Kings 20:1-7. Why do you think that the Lord healed Hezekiah? In Malachi 3:6, God states the fact that He does not change; so Hezekiah’s prayer did not change God’s mind. What do you think that Hezekiah’s experience here—his sickness, his prayer, and his healing—helped him discover about God’s nature, His purpose, and His ways?
Romans 11:33 states that the wisdom, the knowledge, the judgments, the ways of God are unsearchable, beyond our understanding. Describe a time in your life when it was hard (if not impossible) for you to understand the things that the Lord was doing in your life.
Romans 11:34 asks the question of whether any person has known the mind of the Lord—knowing everything that the Lord knows (the answer, of course, is “no”).
How does prayer work to help us discover new truth about God that we did not know before?
Psalm 66:19-20 gives us certainty that God does hear our prayers. He listens to us when we pray; He pays attention when we pray. How does this truth impact the way you pray?
How does the truth in Psalm 66:20—that He never rejects our prayers—increase your desire and commitment to seek God’s face in prayer?
For who’s sake does God listen and respond to our prayers? How does this give us confidence and hope and assurance?
