Strategy of Obedience

  1. Israel experienced a

in fortune, transitioning from the successful defeat of Jericho to the unsuccessful battle at Ai, as described in Joshua 7.

  2. We observed that the actions of

individual led to their defeat and resulted in the loss of 36 Israeli soldiers.

  3. Most of us understand that God is

willing to forgive, restore, and bless us as if we have never sinned.

  4. In addition to divine forgiveness and restoration, there is a further blessing offered - the power to resist sin when

    opportunities arise.

  5. When we continue feeling guilty after being forgiven, it can lead to vulnerability to

mistakes. Feeling unworthy and unable to improve can make it to encounter similar challenges again.

  6. The ambush at Ai was successful, and the city was defeated. However, the reasons

    the victory are fascinating.

  7. Israel’s victory can be attributed to the

they had learned since their previous defeat.

  8. Ai’s misled

impacted their defeat. They noted, “We were outnumbered the first time and succeeded, so we believe we can succeed again.”

  9. Many times in the Old Testament, wars between two groups of people were often viewed as a battle between the

    our weaknesses.

  12. Our message of hope is this: God turns defeat into victory, and our weaknesses into strength. Accepting this truth can afford us the

    of risking failure.

  13. Israel’s victory resulted not only from the lessons learned since their prior defeat, but also from their

    to following God’s plan.

  14. In Deuteronomy, Moses pronounced blessings from Mount Gerizim for obeying the Law and curses from Mount Ebal for disobeying it, long

    Joshua’s story.

  15. Joshua, adhering to divine directives, erected an altar on Mount Ebal and offered burnt and peace offerings to God, where their covenant was

    .

  16. Reverting to previous conditions without addressing the

issues that led to sin initially, we risk encountering the same temptation once more.

  17. The Israelites observed a

and ceremony, which could explain why this story follows the story of the conquest of Ai.
