The Power of Love Week 5
March 3, 2024

Luke 7:36-39 (LB) One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to come to his home for lunch and Jesus accepted the invitation. As they sat down to eat, a woman of the streets (a prostitute) heard he was there and brought an exquisite jar filled with expensive perfume. Going in, she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping, with her tears falling down upon his feet; and she wiped them off with her hair and kissed them and poured the perfume on them. When Jesus’ host, a Pharisee, saw what was happening and who the woman was, he said “This proves that Jesus is no prophet, for if God had really sent him, he would know what kind of woman this one is! A sinner!”

RELGIOUS JUDGEMENT WAS NOT VERY KIND; HONESTLY IT WAS RUDE!

“Love…is not rude, it is not self seeking…” 1 Cor. 13:5

THAT’S ONE PROBLEM WITH RELIGION: RELIGION CAN BE

AND AND NEITHER HONOR GOD!

IS THE OPPOSITE AND THAT’S WHAT JESUS IS ALL ABOUT!

Luke 7:40-48 (NLT) “Jesus spoke up…‘I have something to say to you. Then Jesus told him this story. ‘A man loaned money to two people. Five hundred pieces of silver to one and fifty pieces of silver to another but neither of them could repay him so he kindly forgave them both canceling their debt…who do you suppose loved him more after that?’ Simon answered, ‘I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.’ ‘That’s right,’ Jesus said.

Then He turned to the woman and He said to Simon, ‘Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, Simon, you didn’t offer Me water to wash the dust from My feet but she’s washed them with her hair. You didn’t give Me a kiss of greeting but she has kissed My feet again and again from the first time I came in. You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint My head but she’s anointed My feet with rare perfume. I tell you, Simon, her sins though they’re many, have been forgiven. She loves me very much. But a person who’s forgiven little shows only a little love.’ Then Jesus said to the woman, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’”

WE ARE ALL GUILTY OF JUDGING SOMEONE AND NOT LOVING THEM!

Matthew 7:3-5 CEV You can see the speck in your friend’s eye, but you don’t notice the log in your own eye… You’re nothing but show-offs! First, take the log out of your own eye; then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend’s eye.

LOVE IS PATIENT, KIND, NOT ANGRY, NOT SELF SEEKING, AND NOT RUDE!

PEOPLE FELT

WHEN THEY WERE IN JESUS PRESENCE. HOW DO PEOPLE (SINNERS) FEEL AROUND YOU?

1 Peter 2:17 LB Show respect for everyone…

WHAT IS RESPECT? SHOWING

AND TO OTHERS BY OUR WORDS AND OUR ACTIONS!

JESUS WAS GREAT AT THIS AND WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE HIM… RIGHT?

2 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS: LOOK UP JOHN 4: WOMAN AT THE WELL… SAT WITH HER…TALKED WITH HER…NO JUDGEMENT! JOHN 8: ADULTRY- STONE HER!

John 8:10-11 ERV Jesus said to her, “Where did they all go? Did no one judge you guilty?” She answered, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “I don’t judge you either. Go and sin no more.

Romans 8:1 NLT So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

CAN YOU IMAGINE IF WE COULD TREAT PEOPLE LIKE JESUS?

Eph. 4:2 (NLT) “Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.”

WE ARE ALL GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES! A LOT OF THEM! SO REMEMBER THIS!

1 Peter 4:8 (CJB) More than anything, keep loving each other actively;
because love covers many sins.

ONE WAY TO BE ACTIVE IN LOVE: LOVE

! OVER TALKING IS RUDE!

James 1:19 GW Remember this…Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…

LISTENING DEFINED: SHOWING

WITH YOUR EARS.

“Love…is not rude, it is not self seeking…” 1 Cor. 13:5

LAST CHALLENGE TO BE ACTIVE IN LOVE: LOVE

!

John 3:16 LB For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

IT’S NOT ABOUT ME; LOVE IS NOT

!

HOW CAN I HELP SOMEONE ELSE?
