Why iServe
Senior Pastor Karl Miller, Jr.
Part of Lifestyle of Service
December 8, 2019

Cause the follower of Christ to fully commit to serving God with all they have, leading them to experience the joy and fulfillment a life focused on Christ encounters

But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve…But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. —Joshua 24:15 (NLT)

Saving Grace

  • We are not graced with salvation merely for our satisfaction
  • We have been saved to:
    • before God

He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. —2 Corinthians 5:15 (NLT)

    • God and others

The most important commandment is this: “Hear, O Israel, the Eternal One is our God, and the Eternal One is the only God. You should love the Eternal, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second great commandment is this: “Love others in the same way you love yourself.” There are no commandments more important than these. —Mark 12:29-31 (VOICE)

    • for Christ and His cause

We have been rescued from our enemies so we can serve God without fear, —Luke 1:74 (NLT)

We have been freed from the bondage of sin to become servants of God

And now you celebrate your freedom from your former master—sin. You’ve left its bondage, and now God’s perfect righteousness holds power over you as his loving servants. —Romans 6:18 (TPT)

      The Joys of Service

Three personal revelations I should have after choosing to serve Jesus

      1. I’m Loved by God —

“I love each of you with the same love that the Father loves me. You must continually let my love nourish your hearts. If you keep my commands, you will live in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands, for I continually live nourished and empowered by his love. My purpose for telling you these things is so that the joy that I experience will fill your hearts with overflowing gladness! “So this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you. For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.” —John 15:9-13 (TPT)

      2. I’m Close to God —

“You show that you are my intimate friends when you obey all that I command you. I have never called you ‘servants,’ because a master doesn’t confide in his servants, and servants don’t always understand what the master is doing. But I call you my most intimate friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father.” —John 15:14-15 (TPT)

      3. I’m Chosen by God —

“You didn’t choose me, but I’ve chosen and commissioned you to go into the world to bear fruit. And your fruit will last, because whatever you ask of my Father, for my sake, he will give it to you! So this is my parting command: Love one another deeply!” —John 15:16-17 (NLT)

To walk in any truth I need:
Revelation – understanding of the Word of God
Role model – historical or contemporary archetypes
Regiment of Faith – practical application of the Word of God
Righteous Resolve – fixed motive to glorify God
